China will beef up its military budget by 12.7 percent this year, the government said on March 4, 2011, a return to double-digit spending increases that will stir regional unease. India-China standoff continues more than two months now. China has stated many things in these two months and kept on changing their statements and blaming India for everything. Whole world is watching how China is reacting on this issue.

James R Holmes, professor of strategy at the prestigious US Naval War College, has stated that, “New Delhi has done things right thus far, neither backing away from the dispute nor replying in kind to Beijing’s over-the-top rhetoric.”

Holmes continued to say that, “It is behaving as the mature power and making China look like the adolescent throwing a temper tantrum”.

China is behaving very weird with his formidable neighbour who just wants peace and have no intentions to expand its border. Holmes continued to say that, “If China wants to pursue an assertive maritime strategy, it needs secure borders on land so it doesn’t have to worry about overland aggression from its neighbours”.

It won’t be a mature decision to take on India at Himalayas looking at the cost and benefits of the same. It was asked to him to why US is still silent on this, to which he replied that US govt. already has a lot on its plate.

He said, “It’s also possible Prime Minister (Narendra)Modi and his advisers don’t want the United States involved in a Himalayan dispute it has little way of influencing. If the dispute escalates, chances are Washington will come out in support of New Delhi.
