China is already thinking about the design of its warplanes. The revelation has been made by China’s Chengdu J-20 designers. They stated that China is clear what it wants from its upcoming generation of warplanes. China now has the technical expertise to develop whatever aircraft it wants, told by Chinese state media Yang Wei.
Yang is a deputy director of science and technology at Aviation Industry Corp. of China and member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences said that “We are not complacent about what we have achieved. We will develop the J-20 into a large family and keep strengthening its information-processing and intelligent capacities. At the same time, we will think about our next-generation combat plane to meet the nation’s future requirements.”
America’s F-22 and F-35 and China’s J-20 are advanced fighters which represent fifth generation fighter warplane. Till date, there are no sixth-generation fighters in service.
The next generation fighter would carry forward characteristics of the previous generation fighter aircrafts. It is like built-in stealth and the ability to cruise above the speed of sound, emerging capabilities such as laser weapons, advanced communications and networking, artificial intelligence, active defence system, shoot down incoming missiles, and the ability to control drone swarms.
The development was originally started in the year 1990s, when only West J-XX was known. The existence of plane was revealed in 2011. The images of a flyable prototype got leaked in the same year and it was the time when U.S. Secretary of Defence Robert Gates made a visit.
Now, as per the speculations, a Chinese sixth-generation fighter could be ready by the late 2030s. Before deploying it as an entirely new plane, the technology will likely make it to the J-20.
He said, “We had to follow others’ paths when it came to designing military aircraft because our research and development capabilities were primitive in this regard, but now we have become capable of designing and making what we want to have.”
Meanwhile, Yang claimed that J-20 would apparently be the first place for the big family of the aircraft. The twin engine J-20 is a great airplane. Analysts were originally divided whether the aircraft would develop in long-range fighters or long-range aircrafts. He makes it very clear that we both are likely to see.
There are also other possibilities that include an electronic warfare and air-defence suppression aircraft of the U.S. China has no aerial-delivered nuclear weapons. Like F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, J-20 could also is to take on a limited ability to refuel other planes.
