Be Fully Prepared, Indian Air Force Officer to a Personnel

Air Marshal R K Dhir, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the South Western Air Command, visited the strategic Air Force Station Pune and asked the personnel to be “fully prepared for the future.”

Who is Air Marshal R K Dhir?

Air Marshal Dhir, an alumnus of the National Defence Academy Khadakwasala, was commissioned into the fighter stream of the IAF on 15 June 1979. He has shuttled over 3,200 hours on more than 25 types of aircraft in a career of over 36 years.

He reviewed security and operational preparedness of the base on Friday.

This happened on Friday when the IAF Officer visited the Air Force Station, Pune. The Pune Air Force Station is one of the most important bases of the Indian Air Force. It currently comprises of two squadrons that are India’s frontline fighter jets Sukhoi 30 MKI (the 20 Squadron also known as Lightning) and 30 Squadron, which is also known as Rhinos.

Air Marshal R K Dhir was received by Air Commodore KV Surendran Nair, Air Officer Commanding of the Air Force Station, Pune.

A press release issued on Friday through the Defence PRO mentioned, “AOC-in-C reviewed security and operational preparedness at the base and complimented the personnel for their combat readiness. He urged them to be fully prepared for future. He also flew an operational sortie on Sukhoi 30 MKI with Wing Commander Tarun Gupta.”

Why is Sukhoi 30 MKI a big thing?

The Sukhoi-30MKI squadron in Pune is stationed in the city to shield the Arabian Sea coast. The fighter planes and fighter pilots at Pune are kept ready and on high alert in such a way that upon orders from the President, they can take off with all armoury and reach out to battle the enemy on the Arabian Sea coast in just 10 minutes.

The speed of Sukhoi is such that it can go upto 2500 km per hr. By this, when it takes off, it technically flies over at least three states and 25-30 cities during one sortie (a plane taking off and landing after whatever amount of flying in the intermediate period.)

Dhir was summarised how the Indian Air Force puts its particular emphasis on the latest briefing and de-briefing tools to prevent any catastrophes by its opponents.
