Major Rishi is credited to kill the longest surviving local terrorist from the region named Aquib. Major soon deployed his troops in the area and blocked all the escape routes for his two goals. As soon as Major ordered, the troops had laid the cordon and occupied tactically advantageous positions to target the terrorists. Following blocking the escape route, then the process to plant explosives in the house had been started so that the terrorists reveal their positions.
Major entered the house and plant the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) to explode the house. It was the riskiest part of the activity. Major commanded his Quick Response Team into the firefight. He put the IED and exploded a part of the house completely.
Major Rishi N belongs to Kerala and has been deployed in the 42 Rashtriya Rifles had played a huge role in bringing stability to the turbulent Tral area. He with his quick thinking and courage won the game.
In the house in Tral, Aquib and Lashkar-e-Toiba militant Farsan were enclosed by the army. Due to the first blast, the terrorists had to retreat into the back area of the house and it helped the army team and local police troops to corner them further.
After the firearm fight, the army team wanted to explode the rest of the house also. Major Rishi again volunteered to place the IED in the house. He went inside the house in the midnight. Major Rishi detected the whole area and placed the bomb at such place where it can harm the house mostly. Just after placing the bomb, he started receiving opened fire from point-blank range and a bullet hit him directly on his face knocking off his nose and injured his cheekbone and jaw.
The officer who was injured badly to save his army team jumped up and utilized his AK-47 rifle to stop the terrorists. Immediately, the RMO took him to the hospital. In March 2017, the 16-hour pitched gunfight killed two terrorists and left the Major with a nose-less face.
Major Rishi has a quite friendly nature that resulted in him making many friends among locals notorious for spitting on patrols in the area after elimination of Burhan. It was the quietest area with no stone thrown and the credit goes to the Major and his equation with locals.
On the Independence day of 2017, IC-72692W Maj Rishi R, Mech Inf, 42 RR was honored Sena Medal for Gallantry.
