Militants Wearing Army Uniform Left Armed Forces Worried

Despite the restrictions on the sale and purchase of combat uniform by the citizens in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, the use of uniform has worried the armed forces who want to pressurize the restriction to avoid the misuse of uniform.

The restriction on the combat uniform have been imposed as during attacks, militants to create camouflage wear uniform of the Army, BSF, and CRPF. The recent case recorded when attacker of Jaish-e-Mohammed (Fidayeen attacks in Pulwama and Srinagar) wore the combat uniform. Also, during an operation at a BSF camp near Srinagar airport, a CRPF officer mistook a militant as a trooper and hence delayed to open fire, stated by the senior official.

The ban on the combat uniform has been foisted for many years now. Still, camouflage trousers and shirt have been selling by big fashion houses. The Army and paramilitary forces have also written to the government to take strict action.

The effect of fake uniform has been seen last on the internet video of senior militant commanders from Burhan Wani. The militants of a small group also use to travel in villages or jungles wearing camouflage uniform.

Also, militants who entered into the houses of many police officials wore combat uniform.

A senior police officer also said that “If they manage to get ammunition, the uniform is a very easy thing to procure.” Two constables of the J&K police for supplying ammunition to Hizbul-Mujahideen members were arrested.

“There should be an inquiry that why this is not being implemented, as it is a serious security issue,” said a senior paramilitary official.
