‘Sagar Kavach’, a Coastal Security exercise is to be held in Goa next week on April 20. All the concerned agencies and stakeholders will take part in this test of preparedness.

“This exercise involving all the concerned agencies is being conducted under the aegis of Government of Goa since 2009,” a government press release said.

Agencies like Indian Coast Guards, Indian Navy, Goa Police besides Goa Coastal Security Intelligence Agencies, Mormugao Port Trust (MPT), Ports Administration Department, CISF and Customs will be taking part in the exercise.

The spokesman said that the objective of this exercise was to provide seamless seaward cover along the Goa coast.

“The exercise will also assess the effectiveness of coastal fishing community in serving as “eye and ears” for early warning of sea-ward threat. This time the service of Drishti lifeguards, present on beaches of Goa, will also be utilized for the purpose,” the release said.

This multi-agency environment requires cooperation, coordination and understanding of each other’s strengths as well as limitations to ensure foolproof security by the optimum exploitation of limited resources, said an official spokesman of the State government on Wednesday.

Coastal security exercise ‘sagar kavach’ will be supervised by the Chief Secretary and is conducted and coordinated by Indian Coast Guard, District Headquarters at Goa.
