Seven Indian Engineers Kidnapped in Afghanistan, Indian Embassy Confirms


Seven Indian engineers and one Afghani working for a power plant in Afghanistan have been detained by armed gunmen while they were travelling to to a government-run power station in a minibus.

Zabihullah Shuja, spokesman for Baghlan police confirmed the news. The engineers were working in Northen Baghlan province in Afghanistan.

Two officials at the Indian embassy in Kabul confirmed the kidnapping of Engineers. The engineers were working for Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) that operates power generating stations. Around 150 Indian engineers and experts are currently working on large infrastructure projects across Afghanistan.

There has been no ransom demand from the kidnappers as kidnapping for ransom is very common in Afghanistan.

“We are working out ways to ensure the release of our engineers,” an official told Reuters.
