Research and Analysis Wing a.k.a RAW was established in 1968, it gathers intelligence from outside world and secure India’s interest in foreign countries. RAW is one of the best intelligence agency in the world, they are known for their professionalism and patriotism. Many people want to join the RAW, inspired by books, novels, the internet, and movies but due to lack of information, they can’t serve the nation with the agency. These are the ways to join RAW.

RAW works in shadow, sometimes they recruit personnel from a specific background directly. RAW always looks for candidates who are either serving in Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) or any other government institution, nowadays, candidates are being recruited directly from universities and colleges too, but that happen very rarely.

It is believed that the students who appeared in UPSC, were offered a job. Hence, attempting UPSC and trying your luck there, could also be an option. RAW organizes a special test known as RAW Allied Service (RAS) to absorb better candidates. Sanjeev Tripathi, the current Director of RAW is from the RAS cadre.

RAW also recruits people from Intelligence bureau, to get selected in Intelligence Bureau–

  • you have to either clear SSC CGL examination or give the exam of ACIO-Assistant Central Intelligence Officer taken by Home Ministry of India. Once you get selected, after subsequent promotions you can become DCIO-Deputy Central Intelligence Officer in IB which is grade A post.
  • Another way to join the IB is, give UPSC-Civil Services Exam, and get good rank enough to become IPS officer, serve in your allocated cadre for some time, then go to IB on probation. Following it, there are two options- one if you have exceptional capabilities and better track record in IB and if you wish, you may be absorbed into IB(HQ)-Intelligence Bureau-Headquarter Cadre in which you serve in IB for your whole tenure. Second is you may return to your state cadre.
